Whatever technology you are using now-a-days it seems that it has to support communication, social interaction and social media. Whether that is, a mobile phone, a laptop, an Apple IPad or even a Television. Social TV is the latest technology to hit the market. This involves televisions being more interactive in their functionality and usability.
In recent years things called apps (applications) have been all the rage with mobile phones and computers, now we are set to get TV Apps and TV Widgets as part of social television. Some of the big developers making Interactive TV like Samsung, Apple and Google have already started to integrate things like voice communication, text chat, presence and context awareness. The Google TV is almost ready and set to grab a share of this emerging industry.
With the internet going to be so big a part in the way we watch TV in the future a system has had to be put in place to cope with that. A connected TV is a TV that can connect to the internet. IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is a system through which Internet TV services are delivered. There has also been a big increase in Set Top Boxes. A STB is used currently to have freeview and HD channels. Google have now joined this market to release Google TV, another part of Google’s ever expanding market.
With the “Smart TV’” being introduced, it’s been hard for companies not to over complicate things. Things like the integration of EPG (Electronic Program Guide) have not been forgotten for the simpler things of just finding out what programs are being shown.
